When Life Gives you Lemons

know we have all heard to make lemonade. And while lemonade is incredibly delicious - I have been finding if you aren't dealing with the root causes of the "lemons" - then they are just going to keep reappearing. So I say:

When Life gives you lemons - be with them.

Look at them from a new point of view, and see what they might be able to show you - even if that involves diving into your pain. As you know ultimately you will  emerge in a much better place.

I am currently traveling - but had a moment this week that really rocked me. I won't go into too much detail here, but I will just say that one of the most important people in my life is in a significant amount of pain.

So how do I cope when I'm feeling a bit helpless and unable to jump in? What do I do to really dig into the "lemons"?

Well I think it starts with being able to see the "lemons" (as I will call life hurtles for the rest of this entry) from a new perspective. To shift and stand with them, acknowledge them, so that way you can hopefully dive in to rise above them.  From that place I move on to the following (although I am sure there is still so much more for me to realise as I continue on this journey).

1. I realise that there is no shame in asking for help. Help is available to all of us - in both physical and nonphysical levels. All we have to do is be brave enough to reach out and ask for it.

2. I believe and release what I can to my source/God/higher power. There is only so much that I can control. My whole life I have pretty much battled trying to be in control of EVERYTHING. I am realising now the power in surrendering/letting go, releasing and trusting

3. I send love. This might sound cheesey- but honestly it's probably been the most helpful tool I have found so far. I first send it to myself. I have absolute love and compassion for myself - exactly where I am at in this moment - even if its feeling scared and sh*tty. Then I also send it out to others as needed/as they come to mind as I sense I need to.

And finally - I have a belief that things will get better as I continue to work through bullet points 1-4.

Those lemons have appeared for a reason - and only by working through them can we all grow into who we are at our core - amazing, incredible, inspiring human beings. I have seen a woman I admire and respect quite a bit end all of her updates with the following slogan "The only way out is through." -Penny Wolk-Jones

So life has its tough moments. You can't avoid them. They are sometimes incredibly painful, but only by embracing them, supporting and loving one another and shifting perspectives can we grow beyond them - grow into more - and hopefully shed some light and inspire others to do the same.
